Abundance Ecovillage - we use permaculture desgn principles - water from rain, electricty from solar and wind (grid-independent), solar hot water, "living machine" vertical flow wetland sewage system, year round food production, design for people rather than cars. We model the look and feel of our project on Michael Corbett's Village Homes. The project will eventually house around 30 families - 21 single family homes and another 10 families in multifamily housing.
Fall 2005 project status: 3 homes occupied, one under construction, and 2 more start construction in spring 2006. Homes range in size from 3600 sq feet to 600 sq feet. 10 lots have been sold. We have a CSA farm, 3,000 sq feet of greenhouse, solar and wind systems up and running for 4 years.
We are not really an intentional community, but we are part of the larger meditation community of Fairfield, Iowa.
