Shepherdsfield is a Christian fellowship that tries to live as the early Christians did and as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, including the "sharing of all things in common." We have accepted Jesus Christ as the way, the truth, and the life. Through him we have found answers to the many questions that arise in trying to live together and in reaching out to others.
We presently have about 100 people associated with our community. We are located in a farming area within driving distance of Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri. We earn our living through an organic bakery; a wallpapering, window-washing and painting company; and several cottage industries. We have a large ministry that reaches over the world in studies of Scripture and principles of life. We operate our own school for our children and take seriously the task of raising children in an environment of "purity and childlikeness."
Our desire has been to show others that Christianity is not limited to the institutional forms that have so disenchanted many people and led them to reject the claims of our master, Jesus of Nazareth. We would not want to mislead anyone by claiming our life is a utopia that requires little or no effort for the individual. Quite the contrary, true peace and brotherhood can only be accomplished when the utmost of diligence is applied in living out and promoting the necessary qualities. That requires struggle in order for the goodness of God to be "fleshed out" in us. However, we find great joy in living for him in the present and seeing ourselves and others changed from day to day.
If you would like to visit us, please write or call in advance. We have varying lengths of visitation before a person may apply to become a novice, which can eventually lead to becoming a member.
