Tararu Valley Sanctuary
Thames, Waikato,
New Zealand

Tararu Valley Sanctuary manages 600 hectares (1500 acres) of land which is the Valley watershed catchment. The majority of land is temperate rainforest with around 100 acres of open ground which has been farmed pastorally for many years. The Valley ecosystem has been classified as a Key Ecological Site.
Tararu Valley Sanctuary is creating several “land shares” for land partners (families) to share in protecting and enjoying this very special landscape.
Each Land-share will be one hectare (approx 2.5 acres) of gently sloping sunny land. Every Land-share is no closer than 100m from another – separated by native forest. Each Land-share has drivable access, gravity-supplied abundant fresh water, opportunity for sustainable electricity (solar, wind, micro-hydro), wired for telephone. Some Land-shares already have buildings, and/or fruit trees and gardens.
This opportunity will suit you/your family if:
* You value Nature and want to live in a slightly remote and incredibly beautiful environment, and are flexible to the demands of Nature – rather than seeking an urban existence.
* You care about protecting Nature, like to grow your own organic food and value uncontaminated air, water and soil.
* You like the idea of living in an intentional / eco-village setting, close to your neighbors in spirit and action, but out of sight and earshot of each other.
* You like the idea of a view that can never be spoilt - in a setting which can never be crowded.
* You want to work from home, and/or make a living from the Land.
* Perhaps you want your children to have room to grow and learn away from the roads, concrete and pollution that dominate the towns and cities
The Sanctuary provides opportunities for people to step out of the mainstream world and explore ways of living sustainably, to lighten our ecological footprint - a way for travelers to give something back to Nature, while still experiencing some of the best adventures and sharing life with locals. Our efforts to live more sustainably include permacultural food production - with organic gardens and fruit trees, experimenting with earth building techniques, timber plantations, adopting renewable energy - windmills and solar panels.
