Sacred Garden Sanctuary
Douglas, Arizona,
United States
Summer Monsoon Season
The land is 40 acres in the high chaparral of South Eastern Arizona, close to Mexico and New Mexico.
We are focused on sustainability using Permaculture methodologies, and a simple low-impact lifestyle. We plan to construct a food producing ecosystem which will provide many raw fruits and vegetables.
Our plan for housing is to use Cal-Earth adobe construction to build about 10 eco-domes for residents around a central community center, and additional small one-room adobe huts for visitors.
Currently there are two people living on the land in a motorhome and campers.
Long term goals are to host workshops in sustainable lifestyles, spirituality, and personal growth, research dry-land sustainable agriculture, and enjoy life to its fullest potential.
We will be connected to the City of Douglas, about 12 miles away, and get involved as each individual desires.
Our values are caring for people, caring for the earth, and limits on population growth to ensure the sustainability of human civilization. We value culture and diversity.
We believe that a large percentage of raw foods in the diet, primarily fruit, enhance and sustain health and will be focusing our agriculture in that direction. However, you do not need to be a raw-fooder or vegan to join and participate.
We plan to leave about 20 of the 40 acres undeveloped to provide a place for natural flora and fauna to flourish.
We are still in early stages of formation. The land is currently held in trust by a Corporation Sole. The land ownership may be changed by community consensus to a non-profit, a land trust, or other entity. We are looking into other ownership/rent models to follow. There may be grant opportunities for some or all of the developments we plan.
