We are looking for someone for a house of friends who make their relationships in the house a focus of their time and attention. There are currently 4 people (1 man, 3 women; diverse racial backgrounds, mid 20s to late 30s). We welcome housemates of any ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and age.
Available: second floor room with two windows and lots of storage. Shared common spaces. $600/month + $300 security deposit + $20-$80/mo toward splitting cost of common food + 2-3 hours a week in shared cleaning/cooking, etc. Includes: utilities, high speed DSL, unlimited long-distance phone, and eco-friendly household products—toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.
The house:
Built in 1930: 2 stories plus basement, brick exterior, hardwood floors, beautiful woodwork, warm neighbors
Safe space for people sensitized to chemicals (more information available)
2.5 bathrooms; well-equipped kitchen; living room, dining room, rec room, laundry room
Old trees, peaceful surroundings; screened-in porch; front and backyard with space for gardening
Storage space available in attic
No cable (by choice)
The location: Hyattsville, MD 20781
1 mile walk to green line PG Plaza METRO station. 2 blocks to Metro Bus. Easy access to DC. Possible to car-share.
We:
• Keep the house a pleasant, clean, safe, and inviting place to live, and share household responsibilities
• Enjoy hanging out w/ housemates, shared activities and occasional house meals (these need to be vegetarian)
• Make ourselves available for biweekly house meetings
• Don’t smoke or use drugs (drinking at our house is uncommon)
• Make sustainable choices: compost, recycle, and use the clothesline (we do have a dryer for convenience)
• Keep the home free of synthetic fragrances (found in many shampoos, moisturizers, etc.)
Our house is pretty quiet beginning at 10 PM.
Quiet pets live in the house.
Respectful guests and family are always welcome. Occasionally, a bunch of activist friends crash out on the living room floor.
