The Kana Community is a Christian, ecumenical base community in solidarity with the poor. We are located in Dortmund, Germany. We run a soup kitchen for about 300 guests per meal four times a week and give out sleeping bags and blankets to the homeless. We are also speaking out politically for our guests (demonstrations, nonviolent direct actions).
The community consists of 7 core members, with about 70 volunteers helping in our projects. We have monthly worship services and roundtable discussions. We feel close to the Catholic Worker movement and organize regional network meetings of soup kitchens twice a year.
